Wipro Wins Services Contract for IT with UK Utility

Wipro Technologies has entered into a 5-year strategic partnership with UK’s Electricity North West Limited for delivering transition and transformational services for maintaining its IT systems through a managed service framework.

This partnership has been done to achieve the task of separating the IT operations from Electricity North West’s current service arrangement.

The electrical distribution network throughout the whole of North West of England is owned, operated and maintained by the Electricity North West.

Wipro Technologies is planning to set up new centres for data. It is also planning to configure virtualized and high availability infrastructure, as well as migrate and upgrade wherever it is necessary.

Wipro plans to upgrade Electricity North West business wherever it is deemed necessary.
For providing for its fully managed IT services based on the ITIL v3 Service Integration model, Wipro is also planning to leverage its global remote infrastructure management.
Andy Funnell, who is the CIO of Electricity North West, said in a statement that his company believes that Wipro’s “demonstration of a strong industry competency, a mature global delivery model,” will make it a good partner for his company.
Funnel also said that Wipro’s compelling value proposition and long term goal objectives have made it the supplier of choice for Electricity North West.
Anand Padmanabhan, who is the Senior VP and Head – Energy & Utilities at Wipro Technologies said: “We are privileged to partner with Electricity North West on their strategic journey of IT separation.”
Padmanabhan also said that the deal has underscored the fact that Wipro has a leadership position in the Energy and Utilities space in the UK market.
The strategic partnership is expected to extend Wipro’s footprint in the UK Energy and Utilities industry and make it a frontrunner player.
