Staff from KPMG have raised over £80,000 in July, including taking part in two gruelling sporting challenges, as they head towards the end of their partnership with staff selected charity Barnardo’s.

Around 100 members of staff took part in cycling and rowing events over two weeks to raise money for Barnardo’s and Penny Brohn Cancer Care.

Nineteen teams who took part in ROW100, an epic race in which teams from across the firm battle it out to see who can cover 100km, on an indoor rowing machine, the fastest. The teams of four took it in turns to row short distances at high speed throughout the day. The fastest team completed the race in 6 hours 17 minutes.

One team, was fundraising for Penny Brohn Cancer care to raise money for their colleague who has recently passed away.

In a second event, 24 KPMG cyclists tackled a gruelling 2,600 kilometre bike ride from Athens to London over a two week period.

Mike Kelly, Head of CSR at KPMG commented : “July was a fantastic month for our fundraising efforts and I would like to thank all of the people who took part in raising such an amazing amount of money. We are nearly at the end of our two year partnership with Barnardo’s, having already raised over £1.15 million and I know that every penny that our staff have raised to date will have a direct impact in helping to improve young people’s lives across the country.”

Allan McLaren, Deputy Director of Fundraising at Barnardo’s, said: “KPMG have been fantastic partners to Barnardo’s with consistent incredible effort to their fundraising for us. ROW 100 was a great success and we were also so impressed by one of KPMG’s most daunting fundraising challenges for us so far – a bike ride all the way from Athens to London.

“We are so grateful for the level of dedication, team spirit and goodwill the KPMG team displayed on this marathon bike journey.

“They cycled in sweltering heat, difficult conditions and always with a smile on their face and a joke. They have raised a great amount through these latest challenges and a staggering amount throughout the partnership, which will go to vital funding for all the thousands of vulnerable children and young people we work with across the country.”
