KPMG Staff Get on Their Bikes for Barnardo‘s
Staff from KPMG are attempting a gruelling 2,600 kilometre bike ride from Athens to London to help raise over £40,000 for Barnardo‘s.
The team left from Athens and are expected to arrive in London on 16th July, a total of 25 people will be taking part in the bike ride, 10 of whom will be cycling the full route from Athens to London. The team, who have been in training for over two months, will be cycling in two relay teams each covering over 100km per day.
The KPMG team is being led by Tax Partner, Anneli Collins, who commented: “In this Olympic year, we thought it would be a great idea to do something that was a little bit different, but captured the mood as we countdown to the Games. We have many keen cyclists in the firm and wanted to set ourselves a real challenge. Training in the windy, wet UK has been tough going, but we are all incredibly excited about what we are about to take on. Knowing that we are raising a lot of money for a great cause should help to keep us going and make the saddle soreness worth it. Our colleagues have been amazing in their support and we hope that our efforts will help to make a real difference to young people’s lives across the country.”
The route has been split out into four sections, the full route Athens – London – 2nd-16th July, Bari – Turin 4th-11th July, Turin – London – 10th-16th July and Paris – London 14th-16th July.
Barnardo‘s has been the KPMG staff charity for nearly two years and the firm has managed to raise over £1 million to date.
