The Financial Reporting Council (FRC) has appointed Melanie McLaren as Executive Director of Codes and Standards and Michelle Sansom as Director of Accounting.

Melanie, who will start at the FRC on 11 June, will have overall lead responsibility for maintaining an effective framework of UK codes and standards, including accounting and reporting standards.

As Director of Accounting, Michelle will lead our work on the development of the FRC’s priorities on international accounting standards and on finalising changes to UK GAAP. She will start in this role on 6 April.

Commenting on these appointments, Chief Executive Stephen Haddrill said, “Both appointments are important to our maintenance of an effective framework of UK codes and standards, including accounting and reporting standards. Together, they will play a lead role in seeking to influence the development of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

“Melanie brings to the FRC a wealth of experience of accounting and financial reporting. She is an experienced business leader with a strong financial and professional services background, with an in depth expertise in risk and regulation. Her experience of insurance also gives her a strong insight into actuarial matters.

“Michelle, currently a Project Director within the Accounting Standards Board (ASB), is an exceptionally qualified individual with a wealth of experience and awareness of international and accounting issues in the UK and Ireland and I’m sure will play a pivotal role in developing and disseminating accounting and corporate best practice.”

Roger Marshall, Chairman of the ASB, said, “I welcome today’s appointments. Both Melanie and Michelle will play a key role in the development of standards in the interests of both users and preparers.”
